As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in Microsoft Word-readable .doc or .html format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.


- Federalism-E invites work on any aspect of federalism, multi-level governance, and intergovernmental relations.

-Submissions to Federalism-E are not limited to a Canadian context.

- We encourage articles and essays to be submitted in French.

- We welcome international submissions.


General Guidelines:

All articles and essays should be submitted via the online submission system.

1. Authors should send submissions as Microsoft Word-readable .doc or .html files.

2. Charts, tables, and visual aides should be placed within the text, rather than at the end.

3. Articles and essays can be submitted in either English or French.

4. References should follow the Chicago Manual of Style, 16th ed.

5. A complete bibliography must be included along with any other references.

6. All submissions must have a title page listing the title of the work, the author's name, the academic institution and program of study, acknowledgement of outside help, etc.


Articles and Essays:

We welcome standard academic articles, and essays, to be submitted to Federalism-E. Submissions should be:

- 1500 - 6000 words (not including references)

- Times New Roman, 12 pt. font

-Otherwise follows the General Guidelines
